LINDSEY KELLEY BREWER, Modern and Advanced Ballet

Lindsey Kelley Brewer, a native of the Florida Panhandle, began ballet and modern dance training with the Northwest Florida Ballet Company, under the direction of Todd and Shari Allen.  In 2007, she graduated cum laude from the University of South Florida with a BFA in Dance Performance, where she studied with Michael Foley, Dionne Noble, Sandra Robinson, Jeanne Travers, Gretchen Ward Warren and Lynn Wimmer. Lindsey’s dance training includes the Amsterdam Dance Center, Atlanta Ballet, Dance New Amsterdam, Tiffany Mills Company, Mark Morris Dance Company, Nutmeg Ballet, Stephen Petronio Dance Company and Trisha Brown Dance company. While living in New York City, Lindsey performed the works of  Monica Bill Barnes, Sean Curran, Rebecca Davis, Yesid Lopez, Laura Peterson, Becky Radway, Oliver and Teri Steele and Saul Ulerio. She is a former dancer of Contemporary Ballet Theatre, The Human Institution, Michiyo and Dancers, Naganuma Dance and STEPS on Broadway’s Repertory Ensemble.

As a student, Lindsey’s choreography was selected to represent the University of South Florida at the American College Dance Festival.  During her years in NYC, Lindsey’s work was presented at Food for Thought/Danspace Project, Goucher College, PMT Dance Festival, STEPS on Broadway and the Triskelion Arts Festival.

Lindsey has choreographed multiple original works for the Asheville Ballet,  created and performed various pieces in productions hosted by dancers of the Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, was announced “winner” of Asheville’s 48-Hour Dance Festival in 2011, presented work in the 2012-2014 Asheville Fringe Festival and  2012-2015  {Re} HAPPENING in Black Mountain, NC.

Lindsey and her choreographic partner, Mindy Upin, traveled across the state of North Carolina to perform their co-choreographed duet, “A Tribute and Reflection of the Relationship” in the 2011-2012 North Carolina Dance Festival.  “Tribute” was selected to represent the North Carolina Dance Festival at the 2013 American Dance Festival in Durham, NC.  The dynamic duo presented their debut evening-length, self-produced show, “The Ratio of Mindsey to Kelpin,” winter 2012 in Chicago and Asheville.  They also choreographed and danced in Asheville musician, Marley Carroll’s debut music video, “Speed Reader.” The two reconnected in February 2016 to co-teach and perform in Chicago and Buffalo Grove, IL.

Winter of 2013, Lindsey founded Lindsey Kelley Dance with original company members: Amy Borskey, Kathleen Hahn, Kala Hildebrand and Alexis Miller. The company has since presented two evening-length productions, “Legend of the Shim Sham” and “Ladle Weiss”  at the Asheville Masonic Temple in downtown Asheville. LKD also curated and hosted a modern dance festival, The 2015 Summer DanceFest, in August of 2015.  The Festival presented works of choreographers from Tampa, FL, Winston-Salem, NC, Chicago, IL and NYC.  Most recently, LKD collaborated with Tampa-based musicians Nathan Corder and Sean Hamilton of ‘Mechanical Bull’ to present an evening of music and dance, “emit:time,” at the BeBe Theatre in downtown Asheville.  LKD also participated in the 2016 Interlude, a multi-disciplinary arts festival hosted by Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and The Media Arts Project in Asheville, NC.  LKD collaborated with local musician, Marc Hennessey, to present the debut of “Magic Language Suite” in April 2016.
